The most fun I've ever had in Florida!
I have to be honest… in my previous two visits to Florida I really wasn’t very into it. Then Heather took me out for a night in the historic city of Ybor. We had dinner at a fantastic restaurant called Bernini. If ever you find yourself enjoying dinner at Bernini, save room for the dessert trio sampler! The tiramisu is fluffy and light, the flourless chocolate cake is right and the crème brulee was amazing! After dinner we headed to the Columbia Restaurant for sangria. The Columbia is now in its 5th generation of family ownership. It started as a small café and has grown to encompass an entire city block!
I saw this poster in a store window while we walked to the trolley that would take us to Channelside. Something about ‘wandering gypsies’ is extremely enticing!
Channelside is a cluster of entertainment venues and restaurants. The month of February is ‘Gasparilla.’ I’m still not quite sure what it’s about, but it involves people dressed as pirates consuming ridiculous quantities of alcohol. Our first stop was at Stump’s Supper Club where they had a live cover band that was alright…
Maybe I would have been less critical of the band had I been drinking one of these…
Behind Stump’s is a fantastic piano bar called Howl at the Moon…
There are two grand pianos occasionally accompanied by a saxophone and guitar. You can request any song you’d like to hear and they will play it. I was impressed with the piano players. Sunday we went to a cooperative organic farm and enjoyed handmade veggie burgers and other healthy hang-over recovery goodies like fresh fruit smoothies and carrot juice. Yummy! I’ll definitely be looking forward to visiting Tampa again!
